UTSW Rookery
Spring 2016 I started visiting the bird rookery at UTSW Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. It was my first time to see a rookery. In this gallery I am attempting to document what takes place in a rookery for each species of aquatic bird that comes here. It has been an amazing journey that I am sharing here. There are 8 species that nest here and I will divide them by species in the order that they show up.

I See Papa! View 2
This was right before the father anhinga landed. Both birds hopped back more hidden in the leaves and I could only catch blurred glimpses, no clear shots. What I saw was that the father opened its bill wide and the baby poked its entire head and part of the neck into the fathers bill and down the throat where it retrieved food that had been brought up into the throat. The feeding took about 2 minutes.
