Bush Cicada View 2
I love how the sunlight lit up the reddish veins on the wings and the red on the legs of the cicada. Only the males make that loud call which attracts the females. This species has a much longer call than other cicadas, it lasts for up to 2 minutes. The nymphs stay underground between 2 to 5 years before emerging and shedding those brown shells. There are many predators that consider the adults to be a very tasty treat including squirrels, raccoons, opossums, bobcats, coyotes, bats, domestic cats and dogs, birds, wasps and snakes.
