Eastern-Eyed Click Beetle View 2
Those are not real eyes on the topside, they are fake eyes designed to scare away predators. Click beetles get their name from the loud sound they make when they flip themselves upright. They do then when on their back and it propels them a foot or more into the air and allows them to land right side up and scurry away before their startled predator can react.
