My First Phaon Crescent
I have seen and photographed Pearl Crescents all over the place but this was my first Phaon Crescent. A Phaon has the white on the wings, a Pearl does not. The experts that confirmed the species said it was a male per the shape of the abdomen. When I asked how so, he said: "females often have wider round abdomens with greatest width about midway. Whereas males usually have uniformly narrow abdomen." (Cliff Ivy)
