Nine days after I found the cool looking caterpillar, I found one of the adult moths of that species outside my window. It is a fairly large moth and quite pretty with some purplish/pink colors mixed in with the shades of tan and brown. Note the antennae laying back from each eye that have little spikes like the teeth of a comb. This is called pectinate antennae & means it is a male, the females have antennae with smooth edges. Learned that on bugguide. Another male field mark is the abdomen ending with 2 fins sticking out on each side instead of a point, the female ends in a point.
