Flowers And Plants
Read MoreChasteberry Tree
I found this small tree growing in the middle of some tall grasses in marshy land. The flowers attracted lots of insects. Took awhile to identify it, but its name has an interesting story. The berries and to a lesser degree the leaves are used as alternative medicine as a tonic herb for both the male and female reproductive systems in humans. All parts are edible. Its compounds interact with the pituitary gland and affects hormonal levels. One result is lowered sexual desire (another name for the plant is monk's pepper). It is used to alleviate PMS in women along with some bleeding disorders. I had no idea my research on what is this flower would stumble on such a plethora of information.
