It looks like an eagle, eats carrion like a vulture but actually is a falcon. It is the 2nd largest species of falcon in the world, only the gyrfalcon is larger. It is nicknamed "Mexican Eagle" because it is believed to be the sacred "eagle" depicted in several pre-Columbian Aztec codices as well as the Florentine Codex and is on the Mexican flag.
