I came around a corner in the rookery and there was a flurry of wing flapping on the ground to my left and at the edge of a little opening. A juvenile red-shouldered hawk had caught a baby black-crowned night heron and had it on the ground. When I startled it, the hawk let go and the baby climbed up on a nearby log. Took me a bit to get over my startle and start taking photos. You can see the baby on the log to the upper right of this shot.
