This is Prince. He is one of the ambassador birds at Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. This was my 1st time to see a Harris's hawk, hope to see one in the wild one day. They are native to Texas but a bit more Southwest then my area in DFW. However, from time to time, they do venture up here so it could happen.
In Kathy's words, this is his backstory:
"Prince was illegally stolen from the nest by someone trying to make him a falconry bird. He was found hanging by his jesses in a tree. He was up there for four days before someone called the fire department to retrieve him. He was brought to us and deemed unable to be released due to his comfort with humans and inability to hunt."
