I kept this shot to compare an adult Franklin's gull with a younger first winter Franklin's gull. The adult is larger with all gray back and wings. It has large white spots on the ends of it's primary feathers (the end of the wings that look like the tail when sitting, real tail is covered up in this position). The adult has red on the end of its beak like lipstick.
The first winter franklin's has an all black bill & is smaller. It has brown feathers mixed in with the gray on back and wings. It has very little white showing on the end of the primary feathers.
