There were a lot of ducks sleeping on a narrow strip of land. I kept getting glimpses of something that looked odd and different. I had to wait until 2 mallards shifted their weight to see who was hiding behind them. A female hooded merganser. I'd never seen one so close. They are shy birds and usually are far out on the water where I never could get a decent shot. This was thrilling. She was beautiful and was showing off her cinnamon crest.
