2016 is the year I learned about Red-shouldered hawks. I'd never seen one other than way up in the sky. Was told to look in the fish hatchery at White Rock Lake. It is a Riparian Forest area, very dense and dark with paths and a few open spots here & there that lets the sun in. I went in it & heard hawks but could not see anything thru the dense tree coverage. I came into one of the openings and something made me look up and this hawk was perched silently right above my head. Got one or two shots, then it flew and I never saw another one that day. It is a pretty little hawk, smaller than Red-tailed and Cooper's hawks.
