Domestic Goose On Nest
Every Spring at least one of the resident geese of Sunset Bay makes a nest, lays some eggs and broods them for a little while. So far none have been successful, By the next time I was there, the nest was abandoned with egg shell fragments. These geese don't seem to have the ability to know how to successfully hatch babies. Most likely they often just leave the nest and eggs or step on them and break them, or leave them to predators. This particular goose was there one week and destroyed nest by the next week. She looks to be a hybrid cross between a domestic swan goose and a domestic greylag. The orange on the beak and around the eyes says greyleg and the dark brown stripe down the neck says swan.
